Micro Vineyard Seminar - CCE - 8-11-2011
In the pic below, we were given a demonstration of small vineyard spraying equipment options.
This backpack "air-blast" sprayer was the star of the show...
This is a pick of a "CF" valve (red), which smooths out the uneven pressure such as that encountered with pumping a backpack sprayer.
Found a volunteer to demo it's use (only water is in the tank):
Gas engine powered...
Made in Italy...
Provides a nice blast that gives good canopy penetration and small droplet size.
User commented that he should have had ear protection on...
Easy to control...
Uses less pesticide...
You still need to spray both sides of the canopy...
This is a Herbicide applicator... I think there would be a lot of misting and drift so a spray shield should be used in a manicured backyard vineyard... if it should be used at all...
It spays very tiny droplets, as was shown on this test paper...
Battery operated...
Here is the brand...
The host was Dave Stamp, owner of Lakewood Vineyards...
What a beautiful walk though the vineyard, narrated by Dave.
Plenty of educational conversations...
Showing the movable wire in a Scott-Henry Trellis System...
Here is where the wire is at the beginning of the season...
Post extenders to raise canopy height...
Basically a VSP system with a movable wire will create the Scott Henry System...
A nice crop hanging here...
What a great place to be...
Seneca Lake in the background...
Checking out a "Diversion Ditch" for erosion control...
Dave sharing his knowledge...
The output of a drain tile...Soil and Water Conservation Specialists talked about drainage...
How not to do it...
We looked at various drain tile components...
It was hands-on...
This is a pic of a critter stopper...
It was a great seminar...
